What Google Searching Could Do.
So, it has recently come to my attention that my Chiyorkie, Kailee, has been acting very weird lately. She’s been running around barking at night, running for no reason at all, hiding when I go out to the backyard and then suddenly running at me, tilting her head all over the place before throwing herself belly up. At first I thought she wanted me to scratch her tummy with my shoe [which I did, since she loves that] but low & behold, I soon realized her lady parts were swollen.
Bare with me, I have never seen a girl dog in heat before Kailee. Our previous girl dog, Effie, lived with her sibling and she never acted funky or anything like that and neither did her brother, Bambi. So as you can see, this is why I wasn’t even aware until a few years ago that dogs could actually get periods. I’ve always put up with small male dogs humping at my leg and large chow chows barking at me but never had I seen this.
So I worried but forgot, since she was acting normal other than this…. until Manny came into the backyard. Manny is Sonia’s red toy poodle turned rapist. He unflowered my little girl while I was grocery shopping and with that, we all figured out he also wasn’t gay. He did it again two days later and whinned every time he looked out to the backyard and saw Kailee. I kid you not, he began crying and we just laughed at him.
I just Googled the results over my female dog’s swollen lady parts and I found [of course] that other people had asked the same questions too. This came up as a result:
“She is either in heat or shortly will be. You can tell by noticing a small about of blood near the area at intervals, also, if there are ANY males in the area, they will be acting more anxious by barking, pacing, and even following your female. You will probably notice some bloody discharge from the vagina and a swollen vulva when your dog is in heat. PLEASE keep her safe and protected from any males at this time, as the scent usually drives the males NUTS! Male dogs have been known to jump fences, dig holes to get out and closer to the female, and pace and cry to get to her. There are some males that it doesn’t effect their moods much. All you have to do is keep her inside, or if you take her out…Keep her on a leash during this time.”
At this point, I don’t want half-Kailee and half-Manny puppies running around. She’s not ready and Manny is barely 5 months old. Ergh.
